Origin of Kolob

I had this theory about how Kolob got its name that had to do with the fact that the Hebrew word for dog is Keleb/Queleb and the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, has a long history of being called the Dog Star.
But man I was way overthinking it.
It turns out that the Hebrew word for star, as recorded in the Andrew Sexias' Hebrew Grammer is Kokob. The second K is pronounced with a guttural accent and sounds as much like an H or an L as it does a K. It also turns out that other astronomical words that Joseph invented for the facsimiles appear to be riffs on terms from Sexais' Hebrew Grammar. Sexias was Joseph's Hebrew tutor in Kirtland and none of these Hebrew-ish words appeared in Joseph's scripture until after he had studied with Sexais.
Of course, all of the wacky cosmology in the Book of Abraham came from Thomas Dick’s Philosophy of a Future State and Thomas Taylor’s The Six Books of Proclus on the Theology of Plato, both of which were owned by Joseph Smith.

Interesting reading here Hagoth. I'm going to do some more.
One thing though, the correct spelling is "Seixas". You can get some weird stuff looking up "Sexias"....know what I mean....

So you are saying that all the really nutty doctrine came from bad Hebrew translations from someone who couldn't spell? That actually explains a lot.

Wow, now I want to take a peek at those books

Spelling based on pronunciation seems the stuff of Daniel Webster and American know-how. This is just another example of Joseph's genius of taking ideas from different sources and synthesizing them into something new.

Thanks, Palerider. A Freudian slip no doubt (wish I could think of a dirty misspelling of that).

You know... it always bugged me that a supermassive star would be referred to as "governing ones" because massive stars like that have fluctuations that create anything but a steady orbit. The reason small stars like our sun have a Goldilocks zone is because they lack the mass to cause significant orbital events. It's why earth's aphelion and parahelion never change, nor do any planets in our solar system. Astrophysicists know this isn't true about red giants and they have nowhere near the mass of something like YV Canis Majoris. A star such as Kolob would also draw just about anything that could receive its heat into itself. Its gravity would far outreach its radiance in that regard, or so I'm given to understand (I suppose different stars of equal size have different densities and magnitudes but dense bright stars tend to be a lot smaller).
None of this knowledge "busted" Kolob but it did make me have to specially plead for the star's existence, and I resent having done that today. I made enough of my own apologist arguments to myself that I should write them down and publish them one day. I should make a thread about that...

Did anyone mention the Grand Key?
