Field report: Garments in the wild

We have a new HR employee who is presenting a training session.

She's wearing a dress that falls just above the knee. She's presenting in front of 100 employees. Her garments are hanging out about two inches. On closer inspection, the waste band is creating a "panty line" between her belly button and just under her breasts like they were pulled up and have slipped. A female coworker can't figure it out and it's driving her crazy. Her comments are priceless. I finally leaned over and said "She's a mormon. You can't really notice this but she's wearing her bra over a T-shirt." My coworker thinks I'm joking.

Non Mormons think it's really weird.

Do you or your perplexed coworker remember anything that was said in that presentation?

That poor woman. I'm sure she's a wonderful person, qualified for the job and is happy to be in her new position.
Now, under no direct fault of her own, Her coworkers are starting to form ideas about her due to unnecessary archaic dress codes.

Didn't a certain someone enlighten us with the code words: Polygamy Panties recently?

I'm sure your questioning co-worker would love to hear that explanation...

Is it rude to say something?

Yeah, but what can you say? It's difficult to find clothes that cover things at all times from all angles, in all situations, without weird lumpiness.

Let's just give the woman a burqa and have done with it.

I used to feel embarrassed when I would see the top hem all crooked and wavering across some poor sisters hips under her dress/skirt/pants. It makes me mad when I think about all the tugging, straightening and spanx like tops and bottoms I wore over the garments to keep them in place. I was always so uncomfortable. :(

Yeah, but what can you say?
"Your religion is showing."

Usually not too intrusive. (And a bit funny at the same time.)

Not likely too easy to do when the person "showing their religion" is the presenter in a training meeting with 100 folks watching...

Got me. That's funny. Ya know. She could wear pants, a blazer. There are ways. Still, it is very discouraging to figure out the clothes post-temple.

I would have told her. Those things are so hard to conceal and slippery. It's like food in somebody's teeth - not that big of a deal to discreetly let her know in a kind way. While it is probably odd looking to them, it's kind of "mean girl" behavior to talk about it and not inform her (woman-to-woman).

I bet she's wearing the new bottoms - maybe she can no longer fit into the older versions (too big, or too small). Sadly, the sizing on the new ones is crazy. Even if you buy the petite size, there's too much room at the top and the legs are way longer than before. The good news is that they made up for the huge bottoms by making the tops way too small in the armholes - to the point that they cut off circulation. Even as God blesses those who aren't qualified to do their callings anyway, He blesses women's bodies to fit into crazy underwear.

I wore the new Gs less than a year before resigning. Made it that much easier to send off the email and dump those horrid things in the trash.

It wouldn't be a problem if she were home taking care of the kids like she is supposed to...

Wait, what? Do we really believe that? Yes we do Virginia, yes we do...

I take my garments to a tailor and have them custom fit. They don't make garments that fit a hobbit very well. I figure x if I'm gonna wear those ugly things, at least they should fit good. Mine last decades, so it is worth it.

This demands some explanation. Do you have to find an LDS tailor? Do you ever get push back for modifying the garment? Do you have to explain the marks to non-LDS tailors?

But I think you are onto something and this could be the start of a new business venture. The LDS church should partner with "Victoria's Secret" and "Hanes's" and offer custom garment refittings for temple worthy LDS women and men.

I had not thought of that. Suddenly my subconscious concerns about the temple achieve new clarity. This reasoning is at least as good as the apologetics on FairMormon.

I'm just kidding about tailored garments, but I have thought about it. If you don't tell anyone, nobody would be the wiser. There was a time when you could actually make your own garments, and deseret clothing does custom make garments for those that do not fit. Like really big or hobbit sized people. You may need a note from the bishop to get that service. If I could sew at all I would take them to a non mormon tailor. This does s sound like a good business venture. Private, discrete appointment only. Maybe place a billboard along the mormon corridor.
