My 5 daughters each were taught about the U&T with

Post by MalcolmVillager »

Not a mention of hats or stones this week. I guess despite the essays and new found candor in the COJCOLDS they are still teaching the same old stories. I spoke to DW and we will be having an FHE about it and maybe going to the church history museum when we are in SLC again.

Someone in another group posted about teaching with stones with glow in the dark paint writing on them and putting them in a hat for primary kids to translate. We may need to do something similar. I would rather the girls learn the truth from their parents in their youth than from the Internet at age 40 like me.

DW wasn't feeling well today after SM so I went home with her and we had a discussion about how to introduce evolution (the 10 year old brought that up this week) and how to teach the scriptures are symbolic and literary works to inspire, rather than historical compilations of fact.

I was invited to sub at ward council today and nearly everything that was said was so Kool-Aid soaked it was killing me. I don't know how much longer I can do this until I give my TR back and tell DW I can no longer play PH magic games.

Well, I need to go find some glow in the dark paint. Wish me luck.

It has got to be so tough for those who fully believe in the narrative they've been fed all their lives to come to terms with even the small amount of strangeness the Church is admitting to.

Thanks for sharing MV,
Zack

The problem here is that while the church is admitting to things like the stone in the hat, the info is not getting though to the general membership.

I don't know what is in the lesson manuals now, but people have been told the4 U&T story for many decades, and most people simply don't know that it isn't the case. They simply repeat what they were taught.

The leaders are in a tough spot here. On the one hand, they had to publish the essay to have proof that they aren't hiding information. They can point to it anytime after they published it and say "See, it was here all along and you just needed to read it for yourself!".

But, if they teach the truth, it's a slippery slope for them. It opens up a discussion about the seer stones and members will learn that these are the same stones that Joseph used for his treasure hunting days. Members will then learn about the legal charges that were brought against Joseph, and the fraudulent manner in which he conducted the searches he led. It opens up the world of all the magic and superstition and the occult that the Smith family were involved in.

They also have to admit that the interpreters weren't even used to translate the BofM (only the lost 116 pages). This opens up the topic of wondering why on earth these interpreters were preserved for all those years if Joseph wasn't going to use them and just needed his old seer stone that he'd found at the bottom of a well.

Another mess for the church leaders to have to deal with and I think they prefer having teachers teach exactly what your daughters were taught. They still have perfect deniability and can point at the essays, shrug and blame the teachers and the members for not reading them.

It have not yet seen a good explanation for why the gold plates were preserved for all those years if Joseph wasn't going to use them and just needed his old seer stone that he'd found at the bottom of a well. The Book of Moses was produced just with revelation. The Book of Abraham is sheepishly admitted to be that process also. The whole D&C was produced with just revelation and occasional seer stone.

Yeah there was that hidden parchment of John the revelator that Joseph translated from somewhere in the old world that the D&C 7 discusses. Didn't need that document in the room to translate it.
