World without the Book of Mormon

Post by 20/20hind »

I saw a discussion on another site that asked, what would the world look like right now if the Book of Mormon never existed?

When you look at it, it's really only important to maybe 15 million people and that's on the high end. That's out of 7.5 billion people on the earth.

For being such a super duper important book, has it really changed the world?

Would it really matter if Christ came and visited the americas? If so, why?

The Quran and bible have had a far greater impact on humanity and culture, good and bad.

Take it a step further. Has the only true church on the face of the earth with direct valid communication with god (as the 12 claim) really changed anything?

Look at the church as a whole.

It's really good at making money, its good at claiming credit for changing people's lives. It's good at genealogy, for the sake of making dead people mormons.

When you break it all down, it's just good at keeping people busy.

Hell, It even keeps me busy analyzing it and I don't even believe it anymore

Utah, Idaho and Arizona would look quite a bit different.

The rest of the world, not so much.

I probably wouldn't exist. (I'm OK with that...)

That's a very interesting question. I know it's lack of existence would completely change my life, and likely cause that I would not exist, so from that point of view, I'm glad it's around.
The Quran and bible have had a far greater impact on humanity and culture, good and bad.
To be fair, those have been around A LOT longer than the BoM. What was the impact of the bible 187 years after it was first published? At that point, Christianity had been around for several hundred years before the bible was even created. The Quran has been around for 1385 years, so it definitely has a head start.

But I think to answer your question, the Book of Mormon's impact on humanity is relatively small.

I'm sure that a case could be made that some of the Western states would not have the same population as they do now since so many cities were started by Mormon refugees.

Questions like this though remind of the Simpsons episode where Homer time travels to the pre-historic past, kicks a rock, comes back to the present and the world has changed so significantly as a result that when it rains, donuts fall out of the sky.

Morpheus: No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.

Some Utah apostates told me that the church simply switched some numbers around. Utah an the LDS church would be a lot more tolerable if beer was 10% and tithing was 3.2%.

This is funny
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Various state boundaries would certainly have been altered. The invention of fry sauce would still have happened although Jell-O molds might never have been imbued with peas and carrots.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

To add to that list we may never have had alternate cuss words such as fetch, or Shiz. Oh and don't forget the funeral potatoes 🥔
