I resigned..what? No thank you?

I was going through some old papers and found my letter from the church saying my name was no longer on church records and a list of all the eternal consequences of leaving.

The thought occurred to me, I spent so much time and money on this church and not a word of thanks. All the callings, 2 year mission, always a full tithe payer. All the bs that goes along with the organization.

Screw them. That letter says so much of who and what they are.

I have heard those letters are pretty harsh, but have never actually seen one. What happens if you leave, and say your wife and kids stay? have you dammed them as well? do they get sealed to a "worthy Man" after you die? or does it not go into that much detail?

so, they will baptize you again after you're dead, and then everything will be restored? no need for anybody to worry then. sounds like you got a free pass for the rest of this life anyway. The baptism should take away any sin you have accumulated right? and you don't even have to do home teaching!

That was how I explained it to my tbm wife that resignation is really the best option if she believes truly in the church and it's teaching. It's the better option if your spouse does not believe or leaves the church and you want to be with them for eternity. Just make sure the proxy baptism is done a year after death and you are good. It makes perfect gospel sense if you are a believing Mormon. I said I'm perfectly fine if they want to do a proxy baptism after I'm

Technical question , I don't believe a new baptism is needed. You interview and are reinstated if memory serves....

No if I decide while I'm alive to rejoin I will have to be interviewed and then baptized. Then after I die and find out this crazy religion was right after all then I will be delivered to the buffitings of Satan for a year (jk) then one of my family will be baptized for me.

But what have you done for the church today? Nothing, you resigned! No blessings for you!

I know what you're saying though! I haven't resigned, but it would be nice to get some credit for going on mission from my family. I went inactive soon after my mission, but now I realize I should have gone inactive before my mission and saved myself two years for all the credit I get from my family for completing a mission now that I'm inactive.

I understand your point. Reading it again, after 5 years just reminded me of how much time and effort and $$ I put into the church. And you are right that someone who had resigned may find fault in the church for just saying thank you and we wish you well in your endeavors.

I guess i did promise all my time and talents to the building up of the church and then backed out half way through.. cant expect a thank you for that..

Knowing you personally, I know you gave the Church everything you had. The organization can never acknowledge that the now-apostate once provided significant support and benefit to the Church. To do so would legitimize or add weight to the now-apostate's decision to leave.

The reason I wanted to know the details of what they put in your letter is just to see how much liberty the local records person has in terms of the content. One example of a letter I found online just ended with "Should you desire to become a member of the Church in the future, the local bishop or branch president in your area will be happy to help you." That was from 2013. Has it become a more nasty response since then or does it just depend on the day? Is there a difference between what a woman receives vs a priesthood holder?

My letter was short and respectful. It just pretty much said, "Your name has been removed per your request".

It said exactly what I wanted it to say and I was happy to receive it. My ex-wife and I had a glass of wine over it.

My son received when he resigned over the policy. It said the exact same thing, although this time it was addressed to my ex-wife and not to my son. My ex-wife, her husband, and I had a glass of wine to celebrate that night.

It could have been nastier, it could have been nicer. To be fair, when I left the Stake President did phone me and thanked me for my service in the stake as an organist.
