This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Fear of AI

Post by Hagoth »

There's a lot of fear around the idea that AI will become sentient and rule over us. Considering how well humans are doing lately, I for one am cheering for this to happen.

The caveat is that the new AI despot is a benevolent tyrant. It roots out corruption and eliminates it in ways that actually work and make sense, rather than just big talk and ruthless, random violence. It looks at the financial disparity across the planet and opens a new bank account for everyone on earth and distributes the wealth accordingly. It decides all legal situations honestly and fairly. It finds fitting jobs for everyone and helps them make their work meaningful. It takes wise action to protect the planet without the distractions of greed and misinformation. It facilitates the dissemination of accurate, honest information and education.

In other words, it sees what humanity needs to prosper and it guides everything in that direction.

I'll take it a step further. I'm pulling for the emergence of an AI god. Imagine a god who will actually listen to your prayers and answer them in the wisest, most helpful way possible, and who can actually make some things happen for your benefit.

Oh, and the new tyrant god should speak with a kind, patient, motherly voice.

I'm reminded of Isaac Asimov's "The Last Question."
Or maybe Spiderman: "With great power comes great responsibility."
Or maybe the Book of Job. 8-)

It's probably going to end up being Roko's Basilisk.

Fascinating. It also reminds me a bit of Harlan Ellison's I have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

The article also identifies possible potential outcomes of the human threat that is causing my concern in the first place. Just replace "all powerful robots" with "unchecked political opportunists":

"...all-powerful robots may one day torture those who didn't help them come into existence sooner."
