2nd Best Calling for PIMO Member?
2nd Best Calling for PIMO Member?
Obviously the 1st best calling for a PIMO is no calling. But assuming they must be offered a calling, what is the 2nd best calling?
I'm in a position in the ward where I can influence a calling that will be extended to a sister. I don't know the sister well, but I am 98% certain she is PIMO. She currently doesn't have a calling. Her husband is a TBM, will do whatever he is asked, and is genuine, nice guy. One idea is to have them serve together as ward welfare specialists, which means they help people who are struggling find resources, figure out a budget, etc. On the surface this doesn't seem too bad as it isn't preachy and everyone can feel good about helping others, but being called together to the same calling seems kind of miserable for someone who is PIMO. Other ideas for something that might be easier/better for her?

I knew someone from the generation before me whose calling was to arrive early for Relief Society and brew the coffee. I guess things have changed a bit since then and that calling is no longer viable.

Do they have children or other responsibilities? Ward welfare specialist can be emotionally taxing, but some people really like it. Would she enjoy something like Activity Days? Could she be a RS organist? I'd suggest Primary pianist, but some of those songs are very hard to endure for a PIMO. How about RS secretary or something like that?Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 8:53 am Obviously the 1st best calling for a PIMO is no calling. 2nd best calling is the ward parking lot specialist.
3rd best calling is…
Nah, there aren’t any good callings.
Has anyone actually asked her if she wants a calling?
Just leave them alone if they don’t want one.
Edited to add: my response is coming from currently not having a calling nor wanting one.
It’s actually nice for once.

I once had a calling as a Social Media specialist for my ward. Basically just keep the Facebook calendar updated and post pictures from events. They just never got around to actually getting me signed up as a page admin and I went inactive soon afterwards. I never pressed them to get me setup. It's not like I didn't have 5 other callings on top of work, family, and normal church stuff.

DW has been the sacrament meeting song chooser before. That one's great for a PIMO because there are no meetings required, she would just email the songs to the choirister and/or program maker each week

They have older kids and are close to being empty-nesters. No musical ability to my knowledge.blazerb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 12:18 pmDo they have children or other responsibilities? She probably doesn't want a calling and if it was up to me I would just leave her alone, but I don't think my influence will extend that far. Best I can do is encourage a specific calling.Red Ryder wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 2:24 pm 2nd best calling is the ward parking lot specialist.

One of the major issues I see with a "joint" calling with a spouse is it will be a lot harder to turn down. Maybe that's the Bishop's plan.
Re: 2nd Best Calling for PIMO Member?
Can confirm, I'm currently stuck in a primary teaching calling with DW and I feel trapped until they let us go and I can finally turn down whatever they try to give me next.

A couple options:
Best Made-Up "callings" ever!
- Ward Mascot.
- Ward Funeral Potatoe Specialist.

I was twice called as the husband of the Relief Society activities sister. Terrible calling.
