I really like the hymn Joseph Smith's First Prayer.
It brings back warm childhood memories and makes me really wish it was true. Praise to the Man does the exact opposite.

A couple of weeks ago I went down a kind of Sabbath rabbit-hole -- I started playing some of my favorite Sunday morning music. It had been years sinced I'd listened to anything churchy, and the music brought back a rush of really big feelings. I mostly don't miss anything about church, but that day I had to sit with real grief for all the beauty and hope and sense of sacredness that I've lost. My very favorite is Paul Cardell's arrangement of Love at Home.
But yeah, Hagoth -- I think Praise to the Man would've snapped me right out of it.

I always used to eat the left over sacrament bread when I was a teacher and priest.

Kinda funny, but I'm the exact opposite. Praise to the Man, brings back deep 'positive' emotions, while Joseph's first prayer is just another hymn to me. The hymns are a confusing part of my faith journey, and I'm sure it's the same for many others.

At various times, I’ve heard the tune for “ Praise to the man” being played by Scots with bagpipes. Such a beautiful tune ruined by that one song.
The tune Scotland the great was applied to the poem written by WW Phelps because he was Scotish.

All the versions that have been made from the same melody seem nice. I think the oldest written instance may be Dives and Lazarus, but it could be far older.
Two fun renditions of the
Star of the County Down rendition (which surpass the Hie to Kolob versions, but lack the outer space fantasy aspect since Star is just about a pretty girl):

I dunno, Bela's Cosmic Hippo is pretty much on par with Joseph's Baby Gods.

I really like O My Father. I wish the picture it presents were true in spite of the heteronormativity. However, it appears that all the parts of church that I liked are being removed.
Hymns are basically the only things I can play on the piano with any facility. I enjoy them a lot.

I made out with my girlfriend in the Primary room when we were teenagers. I have sweet memories every time I pass the Primary room in my local church building. #tendermercies
