Mormon Ethnicity

Post by moksha »

I was reading on the Mormon D&D board how someone was surprised to find ancestry labeled as Western Mormon Pioneers in their results.

That got me thinking, what if someone from the Kingston polygamist group, where they have been practicing marriage between close relatives for quite some time, were to submit a DNA sample for ancestry tracking? Would Mormon be highlighted in the results?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

When I took a genetics class (in CA), the instructor said that mormons were studied for the amount of dwarfism found in the population. This was due to close, family breeding practices among polygamists. I remember feeling both fascinated and offended at the same time.

I’m not sure about dwarfism, but there are a few Hobbits in Mormonism....:)
