Your Favorite Foods

Post by moksha »

Are you a foodie? Do you love food? Well, tell us about it.

What are your favorite foods?

Biscuits and country gravy. Is that foodie enough?

How about omelet stuffed with beef bulgogi and parmesan?

I'm a simple man. And possibly a man with a death wish:

Can imagining eating 4 bowls of it every day give you a heart attack? If it can, I'm done for.

Keep that crack the hell away from me. I love it as I should not love.

Yes, you must use it wisely, as you would salt or uranium.

I'll give some that are in particular order... you can probably guess where I live from this

Sweet stuff:
Frozen custard (Andys is the go to and Culvers is great too)

White Castle burgers
Italian beef and cheese (Portillos is good, but there are better local places too)

I also crave the simple things like Reeses Puffs that I eat WAY too much of when getting it for my kid.

I don't know if those are "foodie" type foods... I have gone to a few food fests here that have the real foodie stuff and I do tend to prefer more simple things. And what is more foodie than White Castle?!

I'm kind of a foodie, but I also work too much to put nearly as much energy into it as I used to.

It's summer, so I'm all about fruit salad, giant salads with grilled meat of some kind on top, and ice cream these days.

My youngest kid is totally a foodie in the making. His favorite thing to do when we run errands is pick out new cheeses at the cheese counter to try. :D He's all about charcuterie trays, too. He's 8.

I had a recent obsession going with cheese balls (the good ones from the cheese shop) and everything bagel chips, but Costco decided to stop carrying the bagel chips. They probably did me a favor.

My kids have watched all the episodes of Bob's Burgers. Multiple times. I swear they have them memorized.

And due to that fact, we've been working our way through the Bob's Burgers Burger Book.

Does that count as being a foodie? :P

I'm also a bit obsessed with pairing Mild Barley Drinks™ with food. I'm not really good at it. There are a few pairings that are easy, and some easy deserts and chocolate (still a desert?) with specific varieties, but other than that, I'm not really good at it. Either that, or I'd rather just have mild barley drinks separate from food. I wonder what Joseph would pair with what?

People, foodie is supposed to mean something similar to gourmet. If we are going to consider Reese’s Puffs gourmet food then I better shut up about my mushroom stuffed ravioli in wine sauce.

I was just assuming a foodie was someone who enjoyed eating food.

I think Joseph would pair most spirits with Whoppers.

I dabble in being a foodie when my gut will play along.

Lately love Korean food...

At home I mostly eat chicken, eggs, vegetables, a little fruit, and more vegetables.

Dabble in some vitamin T(hc) and you can have truly mind blowing and trans-formative experiences with music and food.

Here's a couple of my goto dishes, all of which start with vitamin T and are consumed outside, either in the hot tub on a moonlit night or up on the high deck watching sunset:

Beck Hyperspace
Kellogs Frosted Flakes, fresh strawberries and whole milk

Tame Impala - One More Year or Boarderline
Tillamook Old Fashion Vanilla, Kellogg Rice Crispies, hot fudge, banana

This past couple of years I've had a few experiences now where the food music and setting were so good I literally had tears of joy when I overwhelmed my senses. There are perfect confluences of music, food and setting that will literally take your brain to the far out reaches of the cosmos. The first time I experienced this was in La Jolla CA. Had a full gummy, put on my headphones, some Hendrix and walked up to Puesto to pickup my to go order. The Carnitas bowl of traditionally braised pork, herb lime rice, black beans, esquite, cabbage slaw, avocado, salsa fresca, avocado tomatillo salsa, salt cured nopales. Out on the patio of the hotel, watching the ocean, listening to Jimi...my wife took a video and was making fun of me. "Are you crying over ther? Do we need to have an intervention? You are making love to that food!" I started laughing while crying and told her I couldn't help it! If you are ever in La Jolla, trust me on this one. One more from La Jolla: Up the stree from Puesto is The Coffee Cup; best blackberry pancakes EVER!

In SLC:
Ramen from Tosh
Tacos from Taqueria 27
Schwarma from Curry Fried Chicken
The Cowboy sandwich from The Robins Nest
Deserts from https://www.gourmandisethebakery.com/bakery-menus - especially this one:

Isn't that wonderful stuff? Kimchi, bulgogi, bibimbap, and noodles with black bean sauce!

My friend makes bibimbap in a stone bowl, so the rice fries on the outside...amazing. She also does Korean spice rubs on pork ribs...and I could eat kimchi by itself. Also fish cakes. The soups.....yeah I'm sold on this.

One very special treat for those people living near Salt Lake City is the gyros at the Greek Souvlaki made with their special red sauce. Most gyros have some yogurt gunk slathered on, but at the Greek Souvlaki you can get them with the red sauce and that makes all the difference from a taster's point of view.

https://www.greeksouvlaki.com/?utm_sour ... 18ca95c3d6

Incidentally, a panel of six Saintly writers from the Deseret News did a taste test comparison of different Utah fry sauces (Mormons know their fry sauce). They chose the Greek Souvlaki as having the best fry sauce in Utah.

Did you know that the 10 oz size of Stouffer's Lasagna is just right for a middle-of-the-night snack?

I love corn. On the cob, popped, kettle, out of a can, cream style, chowder, candy, chips... I don't think I've met a corn I didn't like. I don't think this qualifies me as a foodie.

The only time corn failed me was the last couple of weeks when I had mild covid and lost smell and taste. It's coming back now.
