Discussions toward a better understanding of LDS doctrine, history, and culture. Discussion of Christianity, religion, and faith in general is welcome.
I didn't watch. It's just too much of a waste of time listening to them drawl on and on......... so, did the Hosanna Shout save our world yet?
The same energy that emerges from the fountain of eternity into time, is the Holy Grail at the center of the universe of the inexhaustible vitality in each of our hearts. The Holy Grail, like the Kingdom of God, is within. -Joseph Campbell-
DW asked if I wanted to join them in doing it as she was hurridley searching for Mr. Hankey's to wave around.
My simple reply, "No."
She was clearly not happy with my response. Magic Mr. Hankey waving for no apparent purpose is clearly very important when a profit says we have to do it.
"I don't need the Mormon church to be true, I just need it to not be verifiably false." - something I read somewhere...(help me give proper citation credit if you know where this came from)
I did, merely to keep the peace. It's just weird, but it cost me nothing to wave my hands about. (I can't remember who likened this to the hokey pokey during the thread, RR maybe?)
"And I don't need you...or, your homespun philosophies."
"And when you try to break my spirit, it won't work, because there's nothing left to break."
You put your hankie in
You put your hankie out
You put your hankie in
And then you shake it all about.
You sync with dear old Rusty
And try not to glance around.
That's the Hosanna Shout! (Yes sir!)
Learn to doubt the stories you tell about yourselves and your adversaries.

That's right. Thanks for the memory!!

Nelson and Holland were able to synchronize their waving while Oaks displayed the dysrhythmic version of the wave.
I didn't take part, but my teenagers rampaged into my office after and said there were several "meme worthy" moments during the shout. The out of sync Oaks was one of them. Made me smile.
I hope that Nelson lives a LONG time and keeps living his prophet life to the fullest. It is such a testimony killer!

Omg! I just watched it and was laughing hysterically. My nevermo partner asked if I was ok. At one point RMN gave Oaks a look, I lost it at that point. lol
Mrs. Hagoth wanted to do it so I thought, what the hell, have fun with it. I may have been having a bit too much fun with it and Nelson's double-take of Oaks cracked me up.
We used Kleenex.

Jesus: "The Kingdom of God is within you." The Buddha: "Be your own light."
I did participate with my wife and daughters. It was the easiest way to comprehend the awkwardness I was seeing on screen. Let's also be clear that the "shout" part was mostly a mild mumble because the Spirit of Boyd Packer remains firmly against outbursts like this. It was unclear what the effect was supposed to be.
It's further unclear what the Solemn Assembly was all about. The Hosanna Shout was easy enough to identify, but the Solemn Assembly seemed virtually transparent other than Nelson announcing that one was going to occur at some point. I think the whole thing was intended to be some kind of cheer to buoy up the spirits of Mormons stuck at home. But most of us would have been stuck at home for General Conference anyway.
