Church membership numbers

Post by 2bizE »

Isn’t it at the April GC where church membership numbers are released?
Are there any projections?

I bet the number of missionaries will be way down!

I’m sure the April 2020 report for 2019 will be much different than the April 2021 report for 2020.

I think at this point they announce: "The statistics are posted on the holy Corporation's™ website." (Or something to that effect. )

And then the vast majority of believing/attending members ignore the numbers.

The church's #s are like China... they tell you what they are and you just have to take them at face value.

They have no transparency and the methodology can change on how they count members and you might never know.

Same with finances... missionary counts... whatever.

I like looking at the numbers, but at the same time I know I'm counted and I haven't been there in many years... which I guess is why I just need to bite the bullet and resign or "have my membership withdrawn" or whatever they call excommunication now.

I thought Quentine changed the narrative last year from "The church will roll forth, like the stone cut out of the mountains without hands, and will fill the whole Earth, to "The righteous will be few because of the wicked." I think that was the same conference they stopped giving the numbers because of the declining growth. For most of us older folks, that's 360 from what we were used to. So many of us grew up believing LDS corp was the fastest growing religion on the planet. Queue the sad trombones...wha, wha, whaaaaaa....

But at least now the narrative fits the numbers, where Mormon god's few super special kids barely make up a quarter of one percent of the world's population and that ration has been in decline for quite a while now.

That's a good point. We won't know the impact COVID-19 had on the stone cut out of the mountain until this time next year.

Some people were predicting church growth to go negative in the next decade or so. The pandemic might hasten that and it may also provide some cover for the people in the position to report the bad numbers up the chain.

My understanding is that the stats will be for calendar year 2019, so COVID ought not to have any impact on this report. BUT, it is interesting that it is Friday night before conference and no report released yet - i guess their printing press is too busy making First Vision accounts believable. Previous years it has been released days before conference. My prophecy is that it will drop in the middle of the night either tonight or Saturday and hopefully (from the COB perspective) get buried in other news.

My parents have been dead for many years and they are still counted.
