The gods of Christmas

Post by Hagoth »

Christmas is a really wacky holiday.

You put on a Christmas CD and hear someone singing about a god who took on human form to redeem mankind from eternal flames by subjugating himself to brutal torture and death.

The next track, sung with equal devotion and enthusiasm, is about a dancing snowman in a magic hat.

It all mixes in the symbolism in there somewhere......
The same energy that emerges from the fountain of eternity into time, is the Holy Grail at the center of the universe of the inexhaustible vitality in each of our hearts. The Holy Grail, like the Kingdom of God, is within. -Joseph Campbell-

No doubt you have written a 30-page scholarly exegesis of the Frosty myth, Kerry!

It also gets interesting when fictional settings have "Christmas specials," such as Star Wars or He-Man. The implications of the holiday existing in those universes are fun to consider.

Yeah, it is a bit wacky, no? With my MORmON heritage, the snowman myth would work much better with a magic rock! (Or was Joseph's hat magic, and the rock was just a prop?)

But... No matter how you do Christmas, if you're not going into debt to get that one perfect gift to prove to your loved ones that you love them... Well, then you're not doing it right.

Reading this prompted me to put on a Pentatonix Christmas album. :D
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Santa is a god that is more powerful than a dancing snowman or a man who makes designs out of ice. And there are a lot of movies doing their best to prove Santa exists.
There are 2 Gods. One who created us. The other you created. The God you made up is just like you-thrives on flattery-makes you live in fear.

Believe in the God who created us. And the God you created should be abolished.

What? No, no, no. In the Star Wars universe they celebrate Life Day, which is totally different.

Don't know about the He-Man universe.

Good to know. I have never actually seen the Star Wars Holiday Special. In the case of He-Man, though, it was definitely Christmas.

Oh, please do.

Don't watch it alone, though.

That looks wonderfully stupid. I love it.

Well, in Eternia they say... that Skeletor's small heart grew three sizes that day...
