Resignation

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Resignation

Post by slavereeno »

I think DW and I have come to an understanding that one day I will resign my membership. There is no definite timeline (it may be a while), but I do believe it will happen.

That's a big step. What does your wife expect with your relationship and church activity as this proceeds? Is she supportive or at least at peace with it?

There are a couple of apple carts that I don't want to overturn, so it will be status quo for now. I can't go into much detail here but there are some financial and social obstacles that I will need to wait for.

I don't think she's very happy about it, but I think she's come to terms with it.

Relatives have a conditional will?

I know a few people who have a temple recommend condition in their family will. Got to have the paper to receive their inheritance.

My thoughts on resignation have been a pendulum. One day I think it’s pointless because you’ll always be in the database and if for some crazy reason you want to join again you’ll have to go through their process. If you don’t resign then you simply show up and become active again. I also worry about the impact on family and friends.

The other side of the pendulum says resign, take back your power and stick Mormonism in the rear view mirror and never look back not even to read NOM, complain about garments, or share jello recipes. Like leave it behind for good!

Resignation seems to be the more healthy option and makes a statement to everyone that YOU ARE DONE!!

Congrats on coming to an understanding with your wife! That is a big step and I hope that when the time comes it works out well for both of you. ;)
Well, I'm better than dirt! Ah, well... most kinds of dirt; not that fancy store-bought dirt; that stuff is loaded with nutrients. I can't compete with that stuff. -Moe Sizlack
