Interesting article on what the author calls "negative self help". I like his thoughts on overcoming our delusions.

I like it!

I especially liked this quote from that article: “getting good at feeling bad is what allows us to feel good.” It’s kind of ironically cyclical how I have tried to avoid feeling bad, which may temporarily help but eventually makes me more miserable. Pain serves a purpose - and thus deserves attention. A book, “The Joy Diet,” suggested clean pain is natural result of injury (physical or emotional). Dirty pain is the extra, unnecessary shame or other pain many tend to add on top.FiveFingerMnemonic wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:52 am Interesting article on what the author calls "negative self help". “In each of us is a bit of all of us.” Nobody’s got it all figured out. Don’t depend on others for happiness. And it’s best not to be too self-confident because I know I have been, are and will be mistaken.
High self-esteem doesn’t make as much sense because some aspects of me are not worthy of high esteem. Self-compassion is more fitting.
