The most noted changes in Joseph's Story from his two most significant accounts (1832 and 1838) concern the first vision, but it is also noteworthy that, as Dan Vogel points out, in the 1832 account Charles Anthon could not read the characters Martin Harris showed him, and in the 1838 version Charles Anthon gives Martin Harris a certificate saying the characters are "Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic." The 1838 account continues with the certificate being destroyed. The 1832 account is confirmed in early (1829, 1840) interviews of Martin Harris. (See "Early Mormon Documents, edited by Dan Vogel vol. 2, p. 253 etc.)

Not only that, but in the official history they retrofit the 'prophecy' of not being able to read a sealed book by adding it in-between lines at a later date.

A post I submitted over 2 years ago may be relevant to the this discussion of when the story changed with respect to the First Vision and the Anthon manuscript.

Specifically, the dating of the 1832 First Vision account is suspect! In my analysis the Letterbook First Vision account could of been written anytime from 1832 to 1837.

No - it's inserted into the entry without any type of fanfare or explanation... clearly it was an afterthought to make the "prophecy fulfilled" angle work, but we just don't know who wrote it or when (if anyone does know more please post because I couldn't find anything).

Anton seems remiss by failing to mention the Asgardian, Vorlon, Pig Latin, and Vulcan characters.

The big difference is that we actually have samples of Asgardian, Vorlon, Pig Latin, and Vulcan characters. We know how to translate them and how to write with them. We don't have any Reformed Egyptian.
