Ran into an old forum thread that examined LDS thoughts on Being Your Brother's Keeper. It is interesting how the TBM interpretation of this expression hedges upon conservative political philosophy.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

What got you banned over there back in 2010?

Talking about the ya-yas?
Hearing this usage of the term ya-yas adds new meaning to that Patti Labelle song, Lady Marmalade.

But it adds no meaning to the song "Race Car Ya Yas" by Cake :)

Speaking of Cake, my Highlander just hit 234,567 miles a couple of days ago.

Sorry for the detour.

Brother's keeper for TBMs plays into the "Keep everyone on The Path." MO. I really felt the burden of this one when I was an EQP. There's was always a lot of pressure in our Stake to keep the HT and PPI numbers high.

I think this and many other religious discussions could be satisfied by the time-honored doctrine of "don't be a dick." If we all just applied that simple philosophy we could spend a lot less time sitting in front of computers arguing about where The Bosses expect us to fall on the love/hate spectrum and get out there and do stuff (3 fingers pointing back at me).

Being your brother's keeper is based on a misunderstanding of what is written in the Bible. Cain killed Abel, right? God asked, "Where's your brother?" Cain essentially said, "How the hell should I know? Do I have the key to my brother's cage?" So now we sing a song about how we should have the key to our brother's cage ("I would be my brother's keeper." Think of zoo keeper).
