Went to the ward Christmas party tonight with the wife. Nobody but the bishop knows of my "situation". I came out to the bishop last week to turn in my temple recommend and ask to be released from my callings.

I work typically 1-2 Sunday's a month. Anyway, one of the men (the previous bishop) comes up to me and says, "well between me being gone and you being gone I haven't seen you in a while. It's almost one of us has apostatized! *chortles as he elbows me in the ribs*. It's probably me! *chortles some more as I stand there awkwardly*. I almost choked on my cookie.

I have had similar conversations. One neighbor even told me he left the church. Straight faced, 2 times, at work, only to tell.me he was kidding and was called as YSA BP..

Consequently I am thinking of telling friends that "this Sunday we decided to leave the church."

Then follow up with, "yeah, we didn't want to stay there all day. So we left and went home."

Maybe it will soften the blow if it ever happens.

 Well, look at the positive side, it made me laugh and you'll probably get lots of laughs the longer time passes.

And you can analyze it more... maybe he let out one of those really honest subconscious releases. :)

It's interesting that they would say this as a "joke". Which tells me that the thought has at least run through their minds. Experimenting with how it feels, I wonder?

I say this kind of stuff all the time as a "joke" just to analyze the reactions I get. I'm hoping to find a sympathetic soul.
