The first lady of Mormonism and others have noted before how God talks to the current Latter-day Saint prophet in the night.

In a recent Church News video interview, Wendy Watson Nelson sheds additional light on those moonlit messages.

“My husband will say during the night, ‘OK, Dear, it’s happening,’” she says. “I just remain quiet and then soon he’s sitting up at the side of the bed writing, now with a lighted pen that someone gave him.”

Wendy Nelson explains that the number of nighttime messages coming to her husband since he became the church’s 17th president has “increased exponentially.”

It is, she adds, “incredible.”

What, God only talks to President Nelson at night? That wasn't always the case with prophets, at night Joseph was usually with Emma and the angel with the drawn sword never seemed to stop by when she was around. And what are all of these "incredible" messages that have "increased exponentially" anyway? Church going from 3 to 2 hours (did God bother explaining why we all had to suffer that extra hour for 38 years before he changed his mind)? Letting female missionaries wear pants? Is that all that the Almighty Creator of the Universe has to talk about with his mouthpiece?

Barf. President Nelson scribbling in the night with a lighted pen doesn't impress me. Where are the angels? Where are the major revelations? "Dear, it's happening". What an incredible load of freakin' self-delusional bullcrap.

And isn't it interesting that Aunt Wendy is the first prophet's wife ever to go around touting her witness of the process of revelation as it happens? What, did all the other prophet's wives sleep through it or something? Is it maybe, just maybe a teeny weeny bit possible that Aunt Wendy likes attention and this is the best possible way of a woman getting it in the world of Mormonism?

Maybe I'm just a jerk, but this kind of thing turns my stomach.

I really wonder what Sister Wendy is going to do after her husband passes away. I'm not trying to emtionally torment a widow, but her status in the church drops down to zero once Russell passes the mantle to Oaks. I'm sure that Wendy will be financially secure, but she has no children and I'm kind of interested in how Russell's children will treat her once their prophet-father passes.

I suspect that there is some value in the lecture circuit for Wendy. Many people will probably enjoy hearing from her. The institutional church might be supportive if she continues to testify of the prophetic mantle and how it passed to Oaks/Holland/Bednar.

No, there is nothing wrong with you with being nauseated by Aunt Wendy. One word comes to my mind. Narcissistic. Maybe not to the level on NPD, but definitely self aggrandizement. Now, on RMN part, delusional comes to mind. Or maybe he knows that aunt Wendy is going to blab about it so he is putting on a show for her to tell the world about how wonderful of a prophet he is. In that case, they both have a case of NPD.

But sadly you are right about it being one of very few ways a woman can get any attention in this church. So, I don’t blame her, so much as pity her.

Corsair, she will get passed down to Oaks to become his wife. This will be new doctrine announced at the upcoming April General Conference.

Nelson will get up and announce that a very important adjustment needs to be made to the doctrine of celestial marriage. Starting with himself, when the Prophet dies, his current wife becomes the wife of the next prophet. If the next prophet dies, both living wives will become the wife of the next prophet. Ect. etc.

I wonder what he scribbled before the lighted pen. Maybe that is where some of his really weird revelations originated; written down in the dark in physician chicken scratch that nobody could understand.

I see this playing out like the Tudors or game of thrones. Once Oaks is in, Mrs. Oaks will wrestle the spotlight from Wendy. Wendy will go way with Sheri Dew and plan a way to retake the spotlight.

She’s always loved the spotlight. And has always loved trying to tell the rest of the Church how to live their lives, even before she married President Nelson. She is exactly the wrong kind of person to be in the in the position she maneuvered herself into. Anybody who writes a book on intimacy in marriage who had never been married herself at the time has a problem (see https://www.amazon.com/Purity-Passion-S ... way&sr=8-2).

Not recommended. At the time the author wrote the book, she had never been married. It is evident as many of the things in the book are simply out of touch with the reality of marriage. A good effort at a helpful book, but it falls woefully short of hitting the mark.

This book talks so much about personal purity being the way to greater intimacy- we have intimacy, we have a great fun, we talk to each other and serve one another.... I need a book to teach us how to reverse all the psychological damage that is so common within Mormon families... this isn't it.

President Nelson and Sister Nelson are similar in one respect - they both have ideas they wanted for years to force on the rest of the Church, and managed to get themselves into positions where they could, Sister Nelson by gold digging on an apostle with a good chance of making the top spot, and President Nelson by outliving everyone ahead of him. They’ve both been aiming for the positions they are in for a long time.

I honestly think she knows his and is trying to steal as much spotlight as she can. I bet my tithing money that after her loving husband passes, she will write a book on the life of living with a prophet. (With a forward written by Sherri Dee)
