Bishop Moss - Failed Wannabe Pimp

I don't see another thread on this, did I miss it?

So the Church's statement convenient leaves out that this creep was "called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands":
"The behavior alleged in this incident is completely unacceptable and unbecoming of any member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially of someone serving in a position of local leadership. Upon learning of this situation, local leaders took immediate steps to relieve him of his role and to identify his replacement."
Someone on Reddit pointed out that President Eyring says that God doesn't make mistakes when someone is called to a position:
For instance, it takes faith to believe that the resurrected Lord is watching over the daily details of His kingdom. It takes faith to believe that He calls imperfect people into positions of trust. It takes faith to believe that He knows the people He calls perfectly, both their capacities and their potential, and so makes no mistakes in His calls.
(see https://www.lds.org/general-conference/ ... h?lang=eng)

SO - God didn't make a mistake in calling Bishop Moss. OK. He was called by "prophecy". OK. His behavior is "completely unbecoming and unacceptable". OK. Wait - how can all of that be OK?

I imagine he will be excommunicated because he probably doesn't have the magic shield (2nd anointing) to protect him. If there was anything less than bulletproof evidence against him the church would probably opt to defend him.

When you hear statements like that it makes you wonder whether they were spoken or just farted out.

Not Buying It/Hagoth - oh how you have been deceived by the ways of the cunning one.

The Church is true, the people aren't. Why is that so hard to understand?

Shit like this is just going to continue, albeit at random times. The Corp/Church has almost zero procedures in place to vet out people in leadership. Acutally, their vetting procedure actually makes sense for the 1800's - "we propose Bro Johnson to be sustained as Bishop" All in favor, please manifest. Any opposed by the same sign" It relies on the local community to know each other and if Bro So&So has a bad rap and the HQ missed something in the interview process, then the congregation should be able to notify the authorities of misdeeds.

Problem is, this vetting procedure was decent for the small towns in the 1800's where everyone knew everyone. Not so great for today when people move a lot and background checks are standard.

Usually, the church is about 20 years too late. In this case, it's 100 years behind the times.

What really makes me mad here is that while Sam Young was fighting to prevent opportunities for abuse, the cockroaches within the organization are still crawling around. The church leaders know there's another pervert in their ranks and rather than change the policies they continue to turn the lights off and close the doors. Sadly this guy won't be the last one in the news. There will be another. It's a matter of time.

It's time to exterminate!

Due some due diligence and background checks!

This is any obvious solution since God keeps failing with inspiration.

To put some WAGs on this: best estimates of pedophilia prevalence are 1%-5%. (It's hard to get actual numbers because most are deeply in the closet.) The church has about 30,000 units. All things being equal (which they're not), there are about 300-1500 pedophilic bishops and branch presidents. Some (10%?) act on it.

So yeah, there's an inexhaustible supply of creeps.

Here's a line of reasoning that might work on believers. It's one of the typical excuses for God's inaction: why expect God to do things for us that we can do ourselves?

Not to mention all the men attracted to adult women or teen aged women who also might abuse teen girls and young adults. And it doesn’t take touching to harm someone. We teach teen girls about sexual abuse in terms of touch. But nowhere are girls taught the line between appropriate questions from a bishop and voyeristic stuff that is none of his damn business. They don’t learn that until they are experience with sex, say after marriage. As Joseph Bishop demonstrated, men are capable of abuse of adult women too, because the church teaches that crossing normal lines is OK in church settings.

The Church and its leaders consistently confuse themselves with God. :o

Help me fill in the time line.
1) He gets arrested
2) How and how long does it take for church leaders to be notified?
Does the Lehi police department make a phone call to the SP?
