The Path

Anyone else watching this Hulu original series? What's your impression?

We are into the middle of season 2. It caught my eye because I like the actor who played Jessie in Breaking Bad; he's the lead character in The Path.

In summary, it's about a religious movement, constantly being accused of being a cult. It was started by a bunch of hippies on psychotropic drugs. It's a mashup of scientology with new age spiritualism and some elements of Mormonism and other modern and ancient faith. It's pretty entertaining. In some episodes you can clearly see the way they came to their dogma was primarily drug induced, but like most movie designed to entertain, the writers keep you strung along with little elements of supernatural events that leave the watcher wondering if there is really something of substance to the religion. Just when you think it's falling apart and the main characters will loose their faith, some miracle get's thrown in there to keep it going. Season two had a pretty silly one IMO. But we'll keep watching it because there's a lot of moments relate to for folks who have been in a fundamentalist type of religion and who went through a faith crisis.

This show has been brought up before and it is full of painful similarities with our own experiences. It does not help that Russell Nelson and the apostles started referring to the "Covenant Path" in the past year. But I suspect that no one in the COB watches cult themed shows on Hulu.

Even TBMs watching this show will scoff at it and say to themselves they are so glad they are not in a cult like that!

You can get the same T-shirt they wear on the show so you can support the cause of meyerism. [emoji16]

If I were still in a youth calling it would be fun to put this symbol on the youth conference shirts with "covenant path" on it.
