Gospel Doctrine

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Gospel Doctrine

Post by Linked »

I attended gospel doctrine for the first time in years on Sunday. DW and I played on our phones most of the time while the Big 5 (the 5 people who dominate the class discussion) did their thing. I used to be part of the Big 5, trying to help the lesson follow the path it was supposed to take; testimonies, stories, and getting the class back on track when someone threw something out of left field into the discussion. It was interesting to watch others do it.

The stake missionaries were there and the sister made a comment about how things are changing for the better. She adamantly and emotionally brought up how great it was for the youth that they could serve more in the temple. She emphasized that both they YW and YM could serve more. Then she brought up the details: "The YM can baptize and the YW can help too, (pause, then mumble) with the towels and other things like that." The way she said it suggested she is very aware how condescending that is to the YW. It was sad.
"I would write about life. Every person would be exactly as important as any other. All facts would also be given equal weightiness. Nothing would be left out. Let others bring order to chaos. I would bring chaos to order" - Kurt Vonnegut

I attend GD th me first week of the year. It was fairly uneventful in my Ward. I work with the youth. I’ve found it quite easy to stay home from church on the GD weeks. Kind of nice.
