More thoughts on vanishing Lamanites

One of the assignments for a history class I'm just finishing was a PowerPoint presentation about the history of a local community. A Navajo student in the class talked about the Indian Placement Program, pros and cons. He touched briefly on some of the weird fruits like BYU's travelling performance group Lamanite Generation. I felt immediately embarrassed for having even grown up in that generation.
In the Q and A portion I asked him if he's aware of any Navajos who still self-identify as Lamanite. He said, "No. That's something that has caused a lot of bad feelings." He referenced a book called Making Lamanites. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this.
