I was going through my son's many duct tape wallets to help him find his money so he could buy something the other day. We opened one wallet and it had a couple dollars in it so I was going to put the money in our pile, but he stopped me. He told that was the money he was saving to donate to the food bank. What a happy surprise from my 7 year old!
I asked him where he got the idea and he looked at me like I shouldn't need to ask. He said that he got the idea from me. I thought maybe it was at church or at school or from DW. I vaguely remember talking about donating to the food bank, but apparently that conversation stuck.
He's a good kid and me and DW are lucky to have him. Hopefully he doesn't grow out of it. I guess I will keep talking about good things and hopefully those stick too.
Not sure if this belongs on NOM, but thanks for reading.

Re: Teaching Giving
Excellent!
There were times I wondered if me dragging my kids out to the wild areas of Utah would ever take hold; it seemed all they were interested in was getting to he hotel and swim in the pool. But now they are all really into the outdoor things, hiking and climbing on their own accord and asking me to take them when they are in town. Unfortunately I think my boy drives on the road aggressively like me, with little to know patience for idiots. Hope it doesn't cost him too much in speeding tickets over his lifetime!

Re: Teaching Giving
It's always good to teach kids about helping the less fortunate, and to have perspective on how bad things can be for other people. Then, to have then give of themselves voluntarily, is a great moment for a parent. That's cool!

Way to go Dad! This is beautiful. Write it down somewhere so you don’t forget it.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.
