Reads positive from a TBM perspective.

The end of that is actually pretty impressive for LDS to put on their page - mentioning how hard it is for an LGBTQ person at church is not something they typically want to highlight.

yeah, I was impressed.

I reached out to Chelsea months ago when I was navigating my faith crisis, and she was extremely kind, open, and gave me great recommendations on managing the issue with my DW. At the time I was likely on the same ground as her husband, and my DW was in her faith camp. Glad the church published this piece by her, and hope a lot of TBM folks read it.

My bishop sent the link to my wife and I with a quick email that a basically said "thanks for coming to church" I feel I understand your family better.

Why can't this message be delivered over the pulpit in April or October?

Yes, I'm glad that the church put this on lds.org. It's a tiny first step. Did this also show up in the Ensign? Will this subject finally be mentioned in general conference?

Sure it will. It’ll be couched in terms of “we love everybody” right before they talk about the light leaving those who don’t stick around. TBM’s eat that stuff up. I think the leaders are far less interested in bringing our loud, obnoxious, dissenting voices back to church.

No chance it will ever be in a gen conf talk in the same positive tone as this article.

The church can't let people know there is life and happiness after you leave. They have to continue focusing on how miserable and sad you'll be without it.

I think that's the most heartbreaking thing of this whole ordeal for me - hearing my wife say that she would have a miserable life w/o the church. I know why she thinks it, but it just makes me so angry that the church indoctrinates people to think that.

I have a tiny bit of hermetically preserved testimony I retain for archival purposes. Each general conference we are urged to pray that LDS apostles and leaders are inspired to present what you need in your life. Frankly, I just need someone to bring up 1 Corinthians 7:12-14

Seriously, that would help a lot or marriages in and out of the LDS church. But I don't find any reference to this doctrinal advice from Paul in any LDS publication. It helps marriages and takes away just a little bit of power that institutional church has over its members. Each year I have to cynically assume that it does not promote organizational longevity so it is continually omitted.

Except the hardcore TBM apologist would point out that verse 12 begins with:

But to the rest speak I, not the Lord:

The apologists like to throw out any doctrine that doesn't suit their needs by saying it was the prophet "speaking as a man" so I could see them dismissing this entire passage as "the ramblings of Paul" and still have their panties all in a knot about heathen unbeliever spouses.

This was posted on reddit's r/latterdaysaints the other day too. Most of the comments were in support of the article. One woman however was very vocal about optimism being easy when kids are still young, but she really wanted to let everyone know how impossible the situation would be once questions about baptism, priesthood ordination, data, etc. entered the mixed-faith parenting world. Her comment was downvoted, and now I can't find it there.

I do appreciate the article. I wish a GA would give this same message in GC.

I'm going with the positives on this one. My ex could probably have benefitted from this viewpoint. In her mind, there was no other choice, the Lord or her dumbass husband of 33 years. She chose the spook.

Anyway, enough of my whining. +5 for the article, it will be helpful to a lot of people I think.

One of Sis. M's friends, a woman who has a less active husband, sent this article to her during our vacation. Don't know if she's read it yet but I hope she gets around to it at some point. It will be quite excellent if she does, it's a good article.

But I'm with the others who commented. Things won't change much until a talk like this is given in conference by "someone in authority" to speak and be listened to by ultra TBMs.
