Something that I can listen to on road trips that helps "people like us".

Lol, I just saw the sticky post titled "Recommended Reading List". Why wasn't I led to that post earlier? Oh yeah, I'm not that righteous.

What type of ‘help’ are you looking for? Something to give you a reason to maintain faith, or something to just understand isssues/think differently about things?

Jonathon Haidt's "The Righteous Mind" is an audio book.

Honestly, I'm looking for material that, in any way, can help someone in our position to understand life and our path better.

For understanding life and our path better I recommend Michener's "The Source."

“A short history of nearly everything” Bill Bryson

Good perspective on how “miraculous” (or coincidental) pretty much everything is.

Everyone should read (or listen to) this book.

"The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark" by Carl Sagan.

Audio book available from Audacity or Amazon.

I would also suggest checking out your local library. At least my local one has a lot of audio books.

Well, I took Oliver up and downloaded The Righteous Mind. Listened maybe 30 minutes but really loving it already! Thanks for all the suggestions!

If you liked the Righteous mind you should also try: Big Gods, The Moral Animal, and Homo Deus. Those three impressed me almost as much as Haidt.

If you want to branch out philosophically and also learn some ideas and techniques that'll help fill the God-shaped hole, try "How To Wake Up" by Toni Bernhard. It's a gentle introduction to secular Buddhism.

Depending on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole... "The Evolution of God". It talks about how the idea of a monotheistic God evolved over time, and some ideas as to why it may have had more staying power than some of the other Gods.

It was another opening of my mind. The first broadening of the brain was when I realized that the question wasn't whether the church was true or not, the question was whether Mormonism was different from any other of the thousands of un-true churches with 100% convinced believers. Did I have more proof than they did? The second broadening of the brain was when I realized that the question wasn't whether God existed or not, but whether my idea of God was different and significantly better than all of the thousands of other ideas of God with 100% convinced believers. Did I have more proof than they did?
