Active without feeling

I get most of my info about local church goings-on from my wife. Today Mrs. Hagoth reported to me about a combined adult meeting where they mentioned how the church categorizes its members by activity level. And the categories are....

-Inactive
-Semi-active
-Active with feeling, and
-Active without feeling

I think somebody needs to make a AWF ring. Wait, that could go either way, so I guess it would have to be AWoF

What would be fascinating would be if they have some kind of statistic about what percentage of active members they believe to be "without feeling." How exactly do you measure that?

I also like the idea of Semi-active With feeling. How many of those are there?

I still prefer "undercover unbeliever"' and I might yet put that on a t-shirt. But Active without feeling is accurate since I am nominally active and I am not feeling what they would hope I might feel.

So am I correct in reading this that it isn't just your ward in particular, but the church uses this type of categorization?

The hubris is palatable.

Active without feeling would be opposite of the emotional torture all of us have had to endure while we rip out our hearts and endanger precious family relationships once we come to the conclusion that it is all made up.

The human compulsion to judge is aggravated by the the religious compulsion to divide people into "Us" and "Them."

It's not clear to me what is meant by with/without feeling. Can you elaborate?

“Active without feeling”. How dehumanizing. I have feelings, just not the ones they want me to have.

What does "active without feeling" even mean, and what do they propose to do about it? That's the real issue. How do you help "active without feeling" members, especially when they tick all the boxes for Mormon righteousness? They go to church, they do their callings, they are active in every sense of the word, they just "don't feel right?"

Imagine having an interview with someone like this. "Soo.....everything OK? We see you at church all the time, you're playing the organ, do your "ministering" and take the sacrament, but you just don't enthusiastically support the brethren and have tears streaming down your face when you talk about the latest revelation. Can't have that in the Most Righteous Third Ward."

Going to church is like watching the last few years of the decline of the Roman Empire, it seems.

Without feeling: Those who have not been able to force their "feelings" to conform in the way that LDS-Inc. and their correlation deptartment has decided are "approved". If you don't "feel" the the same way the Q15, and the GA's all the way down to the bottom turtle feel, you're WRONG. Oh, and not only are you wrong, but it's your fault.

Square peg, meet round hole...

Will it involve extra cookies? Because I might sign up for the "without feeling" or even "past feeling" category if that is available.

You don't kiss the prophets and apostles patooty?
You skip Sunday school.
You miss the Sat night session of stake conf.
You read your primary lesson during sac meeting.
You only have 1 month of food storage.
You take your garments off to exercise.
You only have 3 kids.
You call your neighbors by their first name.
You sit in the back of the overflow.
You show up 15 minutes late instead of 10.
You say you, your instead of thee, thou.
You've only spoken in SM once in the last 6 years.

On the low end of the spectrum there should be another category:

- Inert

That's me. I only maintain my church membership out of spite toward my ex-wife.

Hahahaha ! :D Also, I would like to add that you don't quote conference talks on all your social media pages, don't worry about being seen out shopping on Sundays, and speaking of Sunday, you call the day by its actual name, and not "The Sabbath." ( And probably about 100 other things just like these).

The problem with this list is that I fall into the "active with feeling" category.

Yet I don't believe hardly any of the church's truth claims. That doesn't mean I am not still having spiritual experiences. I do.

It just doesn't mean I think those feelings mean the church's truth claims are true any more.

Maybe the list should be more like this:

Still believes:
- Active (TBM)
- Inactive (jack mormon)

Doesn't believe:
- Active (NOM)
- Inactive (post mormon)

Doesn't Care:
- Active (Social Mormon)
- Inactive (Human) :-)

This is a far, far better list.
