My take on this is simple: "Are you keeping the law of chastity in every way?" is enough of a question to meet the requirements of temple worthiness, since God sees and knows all things, there is no need for a Bishop to know who the masturbators and porn watchers are in the Ward.

I tend to agree with the movement and the LDS church has already made slight changes to interview policies (to avoid lawsuits).

When I joined the church and had my pre-baptism interview my bishop asked: "Do you masturbate?" I should have replied: "Is the Pope Catholic?"

This is a "touchy" issue. I think that private things should remain private and confessed to God only. What do you think?

It's interesting that in the beginning the LDS movement was supposed to be about restoring the original church that was established by Christ. If one reads the New Testament, there are no Bishop "interviews". The Savior and Apostles TEACH virtue but they don’t seem to sniff around to find out if someone isn't living a virtuous life.

Make no mistake, they do deal with those who aren't living morally when it comes to light, but I don't see any indication of leaders putting members under a microscope or interrogating them to look for sin. Remember it was the Pharisees who had to go looking for a woman who was an adulteress to present to the Savior for judgement.

The entire doctrinal concept of the "temple" in the LDS construct is an abomination. Thus any fruit that derives from that tree (temple worthiness) is also corrupt.

This all isn't to say that I don't see some issues with masturbation per se. I actually think a young person (or older for that matter) is better off avoiding it when possible. But realistically we are human.

Personally I have no doubt that every so called modern "apostle" or "prophet " has masturbated at some point in their life. The ones that would deny it are liars.
But a member would be considered way out of line if they were to ask their Bishop if they ever masturbated. Being able to be an authority figure beyond question puts the member in a subservient role.

Right where the church wants them.

There are health benefits associated with the act. But, I am not sure why this would be a focus of any religion. It's part of the human body, even mammals are known to engage into masturbation. If you do not have a mate to have sex with, what are you supposed to do, dream away? Young people also have an outburst of hormonal increase. I understand the concept of controlling passions. I just think that certain things should remain private and between creature and Creator.

According to Boyd Packer, yes, that is exactly what you should do.

Maybe they should make it like the meeting attendance question. In my last TR interview I was asked if I STRIVE to attend all of my meetings and I said, "Yeah, I strive, but I fail."

"Do you STRIVE to keep the Law of Chastity?"

The big problem with the Law of Chastity, of course, is that it is clearly defined in the temple endowment and I see no reason to assume the answer should involve anything besides yes/no concerning sexual intercourse with your spouse to whom you are legally and lawfully wedded. It doesn't ask about how many spouses you have, or their gender, which is probably why it was worded that way. But now that you can legally marry someone of your own gender I wonder if a "revelation" will eventually fix that wording in the temple wording. But then, I guess making it apostasy too care of that problem.
