The church and the Boy Scouts

I remember hearing a while ago that the church was splitting with BSA as it is becoming too liberal and inclusive (e.g. gay leaders, letting girls participate at some level) and developing its own program for youth. But then today my ward was implored to donate to friends of scouting, and the bishop stated that the church has recently reaffirmed its support is BSA. What gives? Did I miss something?

Not quite there yet with implementing this church program. However, the church has eliminated charters for venture and explorers scouting programs. Happened in 2017. these programs were for boys 14-18 years. The boy scout program (ages 12-13) still exist and boys 14-18 can still participate in the boy scouts program.

I wonder if the passing of Pres Monson will make cutting ties with the Boy Scouts more probable...
I just think of all the activity planning the young men's leaders are going to have to start doing, and think "Can they actually pull it off? Or is it just going to be endless basketball." Then I realize "No, it just leaves more time for mission prep..."
(I accidentally wrote "mission perp" first...
