I promise you, this is one of many, many lawsuits that could have been brought for the very same thing. There are a multitude of stories of Ward and stake leaders covering up abuse, I know of some personally. The Brethren have plausible deniability, so far as I know they never explicitly encouraged covering up abuse, and now can point to some policies that would discourage cover ups like this. It will be another case of local leaders being inspired until they do something wrong then hey, they are just volunteers, the Church isn't responsible for their actions.

Fortunately, the LDS Church controls the justice system in Utah so there will be no such lawsuits on its home territory. The danger arises when the courts exist outside the Church sphere of influence. Can you imagine the wrongful death suits brought against Bill Hickman, Orin Porter Rockwell, and their boss?

The SL Tribune is one of the more vocal LDS bashing outlets (justifiably I might add), and they have to be careful, weighing their stories against the risk of being sued and whether they can win such a suit. Its just creepy!

I wonder how much will be public. I know a lot of the documentation has been automatically sealed because victims are minors per state law.

I really wish I could watch this live on Court TV.

Even, so, Peggy Fletcher Stack has admitted that they don't report on some things because of threats that they will lose access to church sources.

That is like a "conspiracy theory",...and what is sad about it, is its most likely true. And what is even more likely is the church touts honesty--and they use their influence to lie or prevent/censure information from escaping.
