I used to love listening to different podcast reviews of General Conference.

It seems there are fewer and fewer of these, to the point I am unaware of any podcasts reviewing this last General Conference.

Leaping into the breach is Radio Free Mormon's General Conference Post Mortem.

It ends up being a part 1 episode, largely because there was just too much to talk about (read: I talk too much).

So much has been said about Elder Oaks, I decided to omit his talk and focus on what others said.

Even so, there is much of interest in the messages given. (Okay, in parts of a few of the messages given.)

That is where I try to zoom in to unpack and decipher.

You didn't mention it directly buy this name, but conference was filled with double-speak. Holland's talks just confuse me more and more. You captured that part very well.

The things you said about Eyring were chilling--not because of what you said, but because of what HE said. These guys are flying blind, and it blows my mind. This whole tradition of listening to the "whisperings". Problem is, no one can HEAR THE DAMN WHISPERS! So they fake it, and the rest of us suffer.

You know...I wonder if those guys ever deal with fear. Now I know the stories told by the likes of SWK where he prayed night after night because he didn't feel worthy. But I'm talking about the guys who expect revelation of some sort, and nothing happens or comes. I know Bill Reel talked about the psychology of self conviction that increases with the retelling over and over. Perhaps these guys get to a place where they begin to believe they really are speaking for God in the very act. And yet, a moment of sanity and looking back at history would show very little "revelation" during the past multiple decades. And yet they are prophet, seers and revelators? Of WHAT!?
