BCC: Who Leaked the Policy?

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

BCC: Who Leaked the Policy?

Post by Red Ryder »

I saw this on By Common Consent. Thanks Aaron for writing this!
Despite all this, let me be very, very clear: The identity of “the leaker” should’ve been obvious to everyone from Day One. The “leaker” was …. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the internet age, when you send an email to thousands of recipients, YOU’VE LEAKED YOUR OWN DOCUMENT. It is therefore absurd to fret about the singular source of a public dissemination, as if there couldn’t be 99 separate sources. But if you want to get technical about it, you can say that I was the first person to put the baby blessing and baptism portions of the November 5 policy in a publicly-accessible space online. That would be accurate, as far as I know.

This is the de facto truth. I have been in general update meetings in large corporations I have worked in where they shared slightly sensitive information. But I could not imagine that they would ever present anything that would not quickly make the pages of a trade magazine.

One remaining mystery is how the LDS church hoped that the policy would be "discovered". My naive guess is that it would simply be eventually known by a few LGBT couples who had humbly shown up in church wanting to get a child baptized. But the average ward member would not really know and the average outsider would neither know nor care since it was an internal policy matter. The crazy interest garnered last year appears to have been a surprise.

RadioWest has a fascinating episode up with as much of an inside story on how the policy came to be as anyone seems to have right now: http://radiowest.kuer.org/post/story-mormon-lgbt-policy

Gregory Prince and Kendall Wilcox are Fabrizio's guests and apparently have some insider information.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that they would be upset that something that they eventually declared to be revelation from God to the world needed protection against leakage. Since when is it their job to censor God? Boy, he must be pissed. They probably turned him in to the Strengthening Church Members Committee for setting up a chain of events to leak his commandment without their consent.

Best to have kept such a sensitive document locked up in the Little Cottonwood Canyon vault and not revealed its existence to anyone.

BTW, Is anyone following the 2016 Breeder's Cup on KSL? Just wondering if the team from Hilldale-Colorado City area was in the lead.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
