TSM Guest Appearance
TSM Guest Appearance
Will TSM make a cameo at all for GenCon - whether in person (even very briefly) or live video feed.

I don't think he will show up. But I predict that many speakers will gush about how wonderful he is.

Re: TSM Guest Appearance
I don't think he'll make an appearance as they've more or less say openly that he's been relieved from day to day church duties. My only hope is that they've learned from past mistakes and won't try to claim that he's still providing revelatory leadership. Whatever may be going on with Thomas Monson, just don't lie about it.
If the membership of the church requires a lie to keep believing, then we're really on the wrong track. What would be refreshing is for someone to acknowledge that he's no longer running the show and to lay out who's actually in charge of things, because that's really not clear.

I'll be the outlier.

I agree. I don't think he'll speak, but I think he will attend at least one session.Give It Time wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:50 pm I'll be the outlier.

Perhaps a video message will be played during the annoying gap between conference sessions where the church toots it's horn for a few hours.

Dang you are right. One of the many things I am not looking forward to. Probably because it feels so leader worshipy and reinforces the "obey everything we say without question" idea. Also, 70s wanna get promoted.

Re: TSM Guest Appearance
In SWKs waning years they only talked about him in PH session IIRC. It evolved from "yea, he is still involved " to "he is less involved but consulted on important stuff " to "he's not involved much at all but here's how the power structure is working". That was the playbook back then. Maybe that will get dusted off.oliver_denom wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 2:24 pm I don't think he'll make an appearance as they've more or less say openly that he's been relieved from day to day church duties. Some apostle needs to carry around a Thomas Monson hand puppet.
Re: TSM Guest Appearance
I think they'll put him on display for one session to show us how valiantly he's enduring to the end.

This created some disturbing imagery for me.

I don't know...maybe a video feed, but I hope not. His picture from his 90th birthday was pretty awful and almost scary. I think he looks so weak and so frail and that's not the image they want to portray.
But...we will see....
I do agree that there will be a lot of gushing and tributes most likely.

Ah, that's much better. Thanks Corsair.

Re: TSM Guest Appearance
I have no idea about President Monson's current health status. Even sitting for a two-hour stretch could be overly burdensome. Since there are both physical and mental components involved, the question of whether he is having a good day or a bad one is also a determining factor.
The Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican will proceed even if the Pope is indisposed. The same is true for the General Conference in Salt Lake. The important thing in this instance is to do what is best for President Monson's health.
My guess is that there will be a 'Gordon Monson the Prophet' video tribute shown on KSL between conference sessions. This would need to be presented in such a way as to not make it seem like a eulogy.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I could only hope when I am 90 I have people waiting on me taking care of every need. I think he has a great life for someone his age.
