From Robert Kirby in the Salt Lake Tribune:
There’s nothing the deeply religious love more than taking something to a blithering extreme.

"Blithering extreme"! Great description. I'm adding this to my awesome phrases and word list along with this weeks reintroduction to "dotard"!!
I love Kirby! I don't miss a single one of his commentaries. I do think he is one of us but shhhhh!
Here's the Salt Lake Tribune article your quote came from:
http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/kirby/201 ... of-mormon/
In reference to the caffeinated soda pop ban at BYU, Kirby said this:
The forbiddance was an extreme derivative of the Word of Wisdom, a health revelation delivered in 1833. It set in motion one of the greatest idiot debates in the history of Mormonism.
And he is right! How ridiculous it is to debate over whether something has caffeine in it or not. Only Mormon's care! If the church was going to demand base ones worthiness on something so silly as caffeine consumption why then could they not get everyone on the same page. Why the decades of confusion?
Example: My now exTBM DD told me once that when she was a teenager our bishop told her she could not take the sacrament until she had fully repented from drinking herbal tea. That was what broke her shelf.

I have mentioned this before, but there's a guy in our ward who completely destroyed his relationship with his son by looking for every opportunity to crucify him for his defiance of God (drinking caffeinated soft drinks). I hope he will seize this opportunity to try to patch the wound.
