Stake Conference: Pay, Pray and Obey (almost)

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Stake Conference: Pay, Pray and Obey (almost)

Post by Advocate »

We had our stake conference last weekend which was largely forgettable (so much so that my TBM wife on the ride home said she didn't know what any of the talks were about). Apparently we were challenged at the adult session (we weren't there) to have one family prepared to take the missionary discussions by the next stake conference. I expect a massive failure as most mormons are terrible missionaries.

The Stake President was the final speaker. In previous talks he has indicated that he is aware of those having faith challenges. He addressed everyone in his talk, but I think he was specifically thinking about those having a faith crisis. He suggested we do three things to maintain our faith:

1) Daily worship of God
2) Obey the commandments (he specifically mentioned the prosperity gospel and the blessings of tithing)
3) Give service.

So not quite Pay, Pray and Obey, but pretty close. Pay was mentioned as part of obey, and I take daily worship to mean pray and read scriptures. It was interesting that he spent most of his time on daily worship and obey (probably 85% of his talk) and very little (probably 15% of his talk) on service. This is the first time I've seen pay, pay and obey laid out so clearly in a leaders talk. I doubt anyone else thought much of his talk, but I saw it as a lame talk from a man with no solutions.

Good products sell themselves, no commercial needed.
Since Church is a hard sell, maybe it´s a hard product?
The Gospel of Christ, now that´s an entirely different story, but that is not about prosperity
