Patriarchal Blessing

Looked across the aisle during sacrament and saw a nice lady I know pull out her PB and read it.

I used to do that. I loved it. There were things in mine that I really felt were direct revelation to me from God. Things I felt that helped me and directed me. Things about myself and my experiences that were true. After my shelf broke, I quit reading it.

My patriarch knew me and my family my whole life. We loved him and vice versa. So was it because he knew me so well? Was it lucky guesses? What value have you found in yours, if any, since your beliefs have shifted?

Mine is vague pointless ramblings. Essentially contentless.

Mine is a classic "cold read" based off a 10 minute discussion with the Patriarch beforehand; you will be a judge in Israel, seek out learning from the best books, marry in the Temple, blaa, blaa, blaa.

My blessing had a few interesting things to say. But my patriarch was a long time friend of my parents. I did not know Brother Jones very well at all, but he knew plenty about me and my family. Among the things he clearly knew was that my father had a background in biology and did his graduate work at UC Davis so obviously "the world" may have some influence over me. So my patriarchal blessing clearly states that I should not be led astray by the teachings of the world regarding the creation of the earth. Instead I should have a testimony that God did it. I wonder how Brother Jones would feel about the increasing and grudging respect that evolution is getting from LDS sources.

Mine inspired me greatly. I felt like I had blessings galore. I felt cocky about it for years as well....like I was "better than".

Then I sinned.

Oh well. If there was any truth to it,..its long gone now. Haven't read it for at least 15 years. Don't plan on reading it again either. I'm not going back to the prison cell again...

Bye the way....anyone gunna be around when Jesus comes again?...I know half a dozen blessings that say that in pretty clear terms.

Mine say's I will be. I really used to think I'd never die. I was really sad when I learned my older brother's said he'd rise in the first resurrection.

Most are and those that aren't vague pointless ramblings just don't come true. Wouldn't the world have taken notice if mormons have these written "blessings" that predicted their lives?

My dad's said he was part of the chosen generation to usher in the 2nd coming. His generation died off a while ago.

I watched an exmormon video on YouTube. This person's brother had committed suicide. Later that night as they were sitting around as a family, one of his other brothers realized that in his PB, he was given the gift to raise the dead. As a family they went to the morgue and gave their dead brother a blessing and commanded him to raise from the dead. I'll let you guess what happened next.

Ho.Lee.Crap.

I'm guessing someone got the blame for not having enough faith/sinning/doubting.

Mine talks about the women I'll marry.

Not sure if that was a spelling mistake for woman vs. women. The doctrine fits.

It also says I will never apostatize.

I've seen this guys video. I think he did a REALLY good job on it. I like how he thought, how he presented, and how is own rational mind eventually led him right out.

Yes, it's Chris Johnson. The very same Chris Johnson who showed the similarities between the BoM and the Late War. If you check out that presentation you'll see how JS almost certainly copied the Late War when he dictated the BoM.
