Just my opinion, but this is a primary reason the church pushes "Religious Freedom" so hard. It's a get out of jail free card when stuff like this pops up. They know they've got a lot of skeletons in the closet and are busy building legal ramparts for the coming battle.

BUT BUT BUT Kirton & McConkie partner and Q1 member Elder Von G. Keetch issued a press release last year saying "no religious organization has done more" to prevent child abuse.

So...

That "religious freedom" battle cry is odd. I've seen it about once a week on KSL or the Desperate News for the last 4 years but they never define what freedom they may lose. I would say religions have more freedom now than ever before but the church has spun it to somehow they may lose freedom.

Hopefully these lawsuits will eventually change the culture within the church. Maybe one day bishops won't ask their neighbors inappropriate questions.

This was an amazing and sobering list of incidents. I recognized one victim's name on the list who is a friend of mine, but this person has already been fairly public about the experience.

Reading through the list I imagined what a believer or apologist would have to process. After each line item they would have to say to themselves "the perpatrator was acting as a man, not as a priesthood leader". At any point can a believer have a legitimate hope that LDS leaders are at least "statistically" less likely to abuse the people in their stewardshpi? If yes, then does this list constitute evidence otherwise? If no, then does this constitute evidence that the this is simply one more man made institution inadvertently allowing what people in power have done for thousands of years?

Dallin Oaks has made it pretty clear that it's the right to discriminate against it's LGBT members. Oh yeah, and women.
