Book of Mormon to Video

Spurred on by the success of Game of Thrones, the LDS Church will be bringing favorite Book of Mormon stories to video in new series.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is producing the live-action videos. Filming has begun at the church's Jerusalem-like movie set in southern Utah County and is expected to take six years to complete. The final episode of season 6 will feature a dramatic scene involving Moroni Lannister in Upstate New York. Furnishing further details would be a spoiler for the story.

Because it was
Moksha writing this post I was expecting hilarious fiction. But the link proved that the church is ready to provide an unintentional satire of itself with yet another Book of Mormon movie. I suppose since the privately funded
"The Book of Mormon Movie, Volume 1: The Journey" was so poorly received, the LDS church itself has to step up and make the definitive Book of Mormon on film.
Obviously, I'm not convinced that this project will go as planned. The stories don't particularly resonate with me except marginally as pseudepigraphy and myth. The story of Laban resonates less and less with modern audiences.

I hope one of these films depicts what it might have been like to travel for a year in the Jaredite barges, including the supply logistics.
Although I think I am in the minority, I enjoyed Aronofsky's Noah movie.

I bet they don't venture into how JS translated the BOM. That seems like taboo now. I saw a few pictures on ksl.com. looked like they were making small video segments of popular tales rather than making a movie. Probably aimed at a YouTube audience.

Is it going to get the "based on a true story" title page?

The Journey to America
That looks like Lemuel with the LGBT colored umbrella.

When I was young, we had one of those Book of Mormon cartoons on a VHS tape. Of course, we only had the free one so we watched it many times.
After I discovered Orson Scott Card's fiction, I was surprised to learn that he had been involved in the scripts for those cartoons. What surprised me was that in his Homecoming series he had given depth and motivation to Nephi and his brothers, where even as a kid I could tell that the cartoon versions of those characters were, well, cartoonish.
A well-produced Book of Mormon movie that streamlined the story and wasn't strictly intended to be devotional could be genuinely good. But I can't imagine that ever happening.

Good thing the video maker stopped short of the oval Nephi cutting Laban into another geometric shape.
