Trying to avoid bad PR I guess.lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:58 amSo far, they seem to have steered well away from controversial topics: Covid, Masks, Vaccines, Abortion, LGBTQIA, Gun Violence...etc.
I wonder if that is a conscious choice?

I like this story better.lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:57 am A great story from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In it we learn of a young boy named Severus Snape who did all that he can to follow evil. He was part of the house of Slytherin. He followed the teachings of he who must not be named. Suddenly, just as he was falling he caught hold of a love for Lilly. He was rescued from despair and filled with hope. He repented, changed his ways, and did all he could to defeat the evil one. While our lives may not be as difficult as Snapes, we can learn from the lessons his life teaches of, of bringing the sweet joy of love.
Sheesh...it is about as realistic and more people have likely read that book than the one you are droning on about.

Take care Penquin.blazerb wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:00 am I get tired of hearing about miraculous conversions that only occur in stories that cannot be confirmed, if not proven completely false. "Look at this miracle. We won't see that today, but we should still do exactly what I say because Alma."
It's even worse in my mind because today's church would never accept either an Alma the Elder or the Younger. Their early lives would forever bar them from higher church service. God apparently is unable to convert those who disagree with the church today.
I don't know if that makes any sense to others or not. Just a weird thought. I have to leave soon. Stay healthy!
When I was in an abusive marriage, I always held on to the Alama the younger story. Like it might happen to my ex and then he would be nice. It's a super f--king destructive story for a lot of people.blazerb wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:00 am I get tired of hearing about miraculous conversions that only occur in stories that cannot be confirmed, if not proven completely false. Very toxic grief narratives. Now people who loose family members will feel guilty about not going to the temple right after. Really destructive!! -50lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:04 am Grrrr. I hate that they share these stories.

My DH managed to turn it on, but he put ear phones in because he wants to avoid comments from the peanut gallery (me) but now he has fallen asleep. [start sarcasm] Funny how terribly important conference is to believers. [End sarcasm]AdmiralHoldo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:42 am My husband doesn't have it turned on. Did he forget??? And when he remembers, whose fault will it be for not reminding him? (spoiler alert: me)
