I just caught some of Bednar's talk- I think he may be inadvertently encouraging a lot of "uncorrelated" learning and personal revelation.

What strikes me a lot about this is that, after all this time that I have been away from it, these talks are all exactly the same type of thing they were before I left. It's all rehash and basic stuff. "Don't talk about what happens in temples", is a talk that's been done innumerable times, and yet here we are. (Perhaps if it wasn't so secretive, er "sacred", this wouldn't be an issue.)

Also, having been away from hear these talks for years, I'm reminded very much that there definitely is a certain cadence to the way that most of them speak during conference. Maybe it's supposed to be kind of hypnotic? Who knows, but it's a weird affectation that only serves to distance them even more from the message that they are, or should be, trying to give.

+10 for encouraging REAL temple prep, including the "strange clothing" (his words). Even my TBM husband thinks we do a terrible job preparing young adults for the temple.

+5 for talking about addiction

My believing husband just said “I love you guys and all...but” and turned off conference. not sure he was Listening much , but i was bored out of my mind and clear the was too.

McKay gets +5 from me for theatrical delivery.

-100 No matter how TBM you are, no priesthood blessing will take away the pain of losing a child. They need to stop telling stories like this. It confuses and opens the unimaginably painful wounds of bereaved parents.
