London is pretty amazing. I go often for my job. Its a couple hours on the train, a 50 min flight or 4 hr drive. I love it!

I was a member of the Edmonton Millwoods Stake during that time frame but in another ward so unlikely that we crossed paths. I moved to Edmonton in 1986 and those first couple of winters were brutal!

As a missionary, I ate whatever (unless it was blood pudding or haggis), and just appreciated people would feed us. I'm sure your cooking was better than me cooking something in our flat.

I really miss yorkshire pudding with potatoes and gravy.
Yorkshire puddings are easy! Get the oven really hot, pop a metal oven tray, muffin tin, fairy cake tin - whatever you have into the oven with enough oil (veg oil or sunflower not olive) to cover the base.

Get that really hot.

In the blender or use a hand whisk:
75g Plain Flour
1 Egg
4 fl oz cold water
6 fl oz milk
Salt and pepper

Whisk it to get lots of air in, leave it to sit for ten mins.
Pour into the metal tray(s) and cook for 20-25 mins at 230 degrees

Trick is to not let heat out of the oven and DO NOT open the oven whilst they are cooking.

Even I can make these!

Thanks! I'm going to try this before we head to England, just to get me prepped for the trip.

One question: Is that 230 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Yes, the winters up there were a major challenge on my mission. It was legitimately too cold to knock doors and often driving was dangerous. I felt a bit guilty for the time I spent wasting time in my apartment or any of many other unproductive activities. But that has long been shed and I wish I had spent more time staying warm and doing more humanist oriented activities.

I live in that mission now Random. How long ago did you serve here?

I served in the Lansing Michigan Mission as well--'97 to '99. Around 18 months under Calton and then the last 6 months or so under Church.

I also now live in the Mission (Midland). Moved back here for work in '12--not because I didn't "lock my heart" as a missionary.

Canada Montreal Jan. '76 - Dec. '78 The mission was split - English/French. The 'English' speaking only missionaries were considered rebels. I still remember an awesome joke that revealed the attitude of much larger French speaking contingent toward us lowly anglais. The joke is funny because they were pretty much right:

It apostatizes.

I'm doing my best to live up to that lofty ideal.
