I was invited to speak at a conference in London in 2015. It was my first time over there and I absolutely fell in love with the city.
What mission did you serve in

I always told them "Saudi Arabia/Kuwait" when asked and so few of them ever got the joke.

I was a member of the Edmonton Millwoods Stake during that time frame but in another ward so unlikely that we crossed paths. I moved to Edmonton in 1986 and those first couple of winters were brutal!Corsair wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 8:38 amEdmonton Castledowns WardCan of Worms wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2017 8:00 pmWhere were you assigned? Thanks! I'm going to try this before we head to England, just to get me prepped for the trip.Bigfatfraud wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2017 3:39 pmYorkshire puddings are easy! Get the oven really hot, pop a metal oven tray, muffin tin, fairy cake tin - whatever you have into the oven with enough oil (veg oil or sunflower not olive) to cover the base.Deepthinker wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2017 7:01 amThat's awesome! My home stake is Leeds..... wonder if I ever met you or if you came to our house for dinner and I subjected you to my awful cooking...... sorry 'bout that! My TBM husband invites the poor, unsuspecting missionaries for dinner all the time and I really cannot cook!
As a missionary, I ate whatever (unless it was blood pudding or haggis), and just appreciated people would feed us. I'm sure your cooking was better than me cooking something in our flat.
I really miss yorkshire pudding with potatoes and gravy.
Get that really hot.
In the blender or use a hand whisk:
75g Plain Flour
1 Egg
4 fl oz cold water
6 fl oz milk
Salt and pepper
Whisk it to get lots of air in, leave it to sit for ten mins.
Pour into the metal tray(s) and cook for 20-25 mins at 230 degrees
Trick is to not let heat out of the oven and DO NOT open the oven whilst they are cooking.
Even I can make these!
One question: Is that 230 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit?
Re: What mission did you serve in
Yes, the winters up there were a major challenge on my mission. It was legitimately too cold to knock doors and often driving was dangerous. I felt a bit guilty for the time I spent wasting time in my apartment or any of many other unproductive activities. But that has long been shed and I wish I had spent more time staying warm and doing more humanist oriented activities. Can of Worms wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2017 7:21 pm I was a member of the Edmonton Millwoods Stake during that time frame but in another ward so unlikely that we crossed paths. So what you're saying is: The service you provided was something you can actually be proud of?

I served in the Lansing Michigan Mission as well--'97 to '99. Around 18 months under Calton and then the last 6 months or so under Church.Lostinmiddlemormonism2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 7:30 amI live in that mission now Random. How long ago did you serve here?
I also now live in the Mission (Midland). Moved back here for work in '12--not because I didn't "lock my heart" as a missionary.

Rep Dom Santiago.
The church has engineered your eternal family into a commodity that can be purchased with an annual fee. The fact that full tithing payment is a requirement for saving ordinances is the biggest red flag imaginable. Hagoth

thanks for your service.
or am I missing the joke?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

No you got it. I was just unprepared for the culture of Utah cluelessness that permeates the fabric of the church.

I wasn't implying that at the time but I suppose it's one way to look at it.

There are 2 Gods. One who created us. The other you created. The God you made up is just like you-thrives on flattery-makes you live in fear.

I guess that could out me if I was worried about being outed, since only two sisters arrived and departed that mission at those times.

Canada Montreal Jan. '76 - Dec. '78 The mission was split - English/French. The 'English' speaking only missionaries were considered rebels. I still remember an awesome joke that revealed the attitude of much larger French speaking contingent toward us lowly anglais. The joke is funny because they were pretty much right:
What happens when you wind up an English Elder wind-up doll?
It apostatizes.
I'm doing my best to live up to that lofty ideal.
