Stake asks people for their income-tax statement ...in order to get a TR.
Sounds like a clear case of papercraft!
Why in the world do LDS people bend over backwards to go to the temple, pledge everything to the Church (not God mind you...the church), and take oaths and promises that have no history in Christianity at all?----all because we have been told we are going to hell if we don't?
What is the power of this organization!...WOW!

The part I bolded is the allure of it, or it was for me at least. We had the true gospel, thought I, unsullied by sectarianism. I didn't much care for the Jesus hymns in the hymnbook like "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me"; I preferred the Mormon hymns like "Come, Come, Ye Saints".

The promise of Eternal Life, worlds without end, with your family intact. That's the biggest hook you can imagine......especially for women, but men as well I think. The idea of losing your husband/wife and children to Hell or some lesser kingdom and never seeing them again ( or possibly just on special visits) is a pretty horrific fear motivator. And the
ONLY way to achieve that Eternal Life is through the authorized ordinances of the one and only, verifiably, undeniably, absolutely true and faultless Church of Joseph Smith. As Eve said in the Garden, "Is there no other way?.....and Satan replied, "There is no other way....."

Looks like Mr Dehlin already posted it on Mormon Stories podcast this morning.

Will he attempt to plug the dike with a Dutch rescue? Maybe he was so impressed with you on the podcast that he had to meet you in person.
In the words of the legendary Paul McCartney:
Zuiderzee, Zuiderzee life goes on bro
La-la how the life goes on...

am I reading this correctly? the membership has grown from 1963 members in 2000, to 9541 members today? or maybe the 1963 is the goteborg stake only?
would that be considered a great 2nd harvest?

Yes the larger number is for the whole of Sweden.

it would seem that over the last 20 years there has been no real growth. Certainly not a second harvest. I remember years ago the second harvest was excitedly spoken about, and then...nothing.
Anyone else here from Europe and remember it being spoken about?

The first thing to pop out at me is the Mattson twins being featured. They lost one of them.

Yes, I happened upon a link on FB to Han's story in the NY Times, as a TBM, I read it - then listened to my first mormon story podcast where the sincerity of Hans ripped the fabric of my world apart.

Of the 9000 members in holland, how many of those would you say are active members? and how busy is the temple there?

In the NYT article about Hans Matteson, it says L tom perry went over there and told them he had a document in his briefcase that would solve all their doubts, but didn't show them anything. Then he returned and reported he had provided them with a document of information. Sounds a bit dishonest. I wonder what was in the briefcase? CES letter maybe?

Any updates on unit closures? What parts of Europe are most affected, are places like Spain seeing consolidation of units?

Just bumping this thread. Are there any updates on closures?
With only 1,444 units in Europe, closing 800 would be devastating.

According to the website above, so far in 2017 (as of July 17th) these countries have lost this number of units:
Netherlands: -7
Belgium: -6
England: -3
Ireland: -1
Germany: -2
Spain: -2
Portugal: -3
So that is 24 units closed that I have found. Some countries I checked had no changes.
