Because the Church holds itself to a higher standard of neuroticism. Think of it as a righteous stand against the less valiant second X chromosome. Temptation must be restrained by the bra of eternal judgment!!!
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
