The Year Supply seems to be only an LDS cultural item at this point. It is marginally supported at the ward level and can still be accomplished, but it does not get mentioned in conference any longer. Porn and apostasy are more pressing issues these days.
This. I keep trying to point this out to my TBM friend, but I get no where. That entire concept just does not resonate with me. In fact, if the concept is true, my dad is a jackass and i dont want to be around him anyway.

There was a story that used to circulate around when I was in my 20s that just reeked of BS. The basic story goes as follows: Five guys serving in Korea used to get together for Sunday worship every week. One day they all wrote down all the elements the true church would have. Sometimes this comes with a list, we all know what these things are. Then they all parted ways when the war ended.
Decades later they all met up for a reunion, discovering every one of them having joined the one true church of their description.
I think after the third time I finally turned to someone in sacrament and told them I didn't believe a word of it. I was pleased to learn I wasn't alone. I think that was the first real clue that there were different stripes of members (it was soon after my conversion that I got shipped off to the Singles Ward).
I have heard this one twice in the past couple of months. Sort of inevitable. Few remember the stone box where the first one was found, let alone its golden wrapper. Weighing in at nearly 3/4 lbs, it was hard to conceal and strained its take-home sack, not to mention all the neighborhood toughs who wanted to claim it as their own.
