An important thing to know (at least for those concerned with history) is that the LDS Church was not always opposed to the cross. The resentment of Christianity stemmed from the World Congress of Religions not extending speaking full speaking courtesies to Mormon intellectual whiz B.H. Roberts. The Brethren did not want to be part of any group that did not appreciate them. They after all possessed the full truth and the Principle.
A giant Cross almost ended up atop Salt Lake's Ensign Peak; Also suggested for Timpanogos Peak.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
