Squid Games!
Re: What are you watching right now?
Man the first 30 minutes of episode 1 were so cheesy and bad English dubbed over Korean. But powered through and now hooked. Red light green light was a fun kids game. Not so sure now.
It reminded me of the few times I went on splits with the Vietnamese speaking elders and they would get invited to eat lunch and watch movies.
Learned to love the food.

Watched episode 1 of the Squid Games. My daughter insisted we watch in Korean to avoid cartoonish dubbing. Thank goodness I can still easily read the subtitles.

Not sure if the other 8 episodes become less cartoonish or you just get used to it. We watched the whole show now and weren’t distracted by it. The English subtitles didn’t exactly match with the English dub over so we turned them off.
Great show although a bit odd at the end.

It is hard for really good and innovative programs to be appreciated, otherwise, the show Penny Dreadful: City of Angels would have been a bigger hit. Historical fantasy programs need to be made by the BBC. BTW, waiting for season 3 of His Dark Materials. It will be broadcast on HBO.
We finished episode 3 of the Squid Games.

I've been watching Midsomer Murders from the beginning, starting in March of 1997. I am now up to season 9. All episodes can be found on YouTube free of charge.
If you are an older person, forget The Bachelorette and tune in to Midsomer Murders!

Finished episode 10 of La Brea and I look forward to season 2 next fall.
The show needed to be filmed in Australia to simulate 10,000 BCE because the SLC Temple was under construction.

I am currently watching Zack Snyder's Director's Cut of the movie Justice League. It suddenly occurs to me how Hollywood studios can cripple and even ruin movies by their editing of the director's vision of how the movie should be. The suits are lame at editing movies.
It is a shame that the footage taken from the 1984 movie Dune does not remain, since it would have given fans a totally different experience.
Anyway, this version of Justice League makes sense in ways that were never apparent in the first version.

Just finished Fatma. Pretty sad. I recently watched Squid Games. I too can't stand to watch with dubbing. I have to watch in the native language with subtitles. I've started so many programs on Netflix, just to abandon them. Good shows are occasional. Luckily I'm old enough, and forget so much detail, I can rewatch a program as if it's new .
Re: What are you watching right now?
I recommend the series Fargo.
It's well done, well written, well acted, and has several homages to various Coen brothers' movies thrown in. The last season is not as strong imo.
To save you the trouble of looking it up, the events described in the series are NOT based on true stories, but the assertion they are is just a reference to the movie Fargo, which was based loosely on a couple of true events.

Don't Look Up on Netflix is pretty funny/disturbing.

Re: What are you watching right now?
This is an an intriguing future series that I will likely binge watch when it comes out. I loved the original series back in the early 90s. The special effects are quite dated, but still not bad for the era. But the story was fantastic.moksha wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:17 pm Here is something for future viewing, the return of Babylon 5.

Re: What are you watching right now?
I have a hard time watching current TV. Most of the shows are episodic. I much prefer the older format of stand alone episodes. Maybe an overall general trajectory but independent episodes, Babylon 5 would be a good example of that.
Best movie on Netflix is Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga. Its hilarious and wonderful satire.
