Though women or men for that matter can have their own thoughts and feelings separate from an overarching desire to please the church, some choose not to.

I agree with all of your criticism. However, given that the writer is a true believer, I don't think I could ask for anything better. We write from our own perspectives, right? She's writing from her point of view that the church REALLY is true, and despite that, she still wants to love and honor her husband, who disagrees completely about religion. The only beef I have with it is this one phrase, used in two places: where he is in his faith.
I would like a replacement phrase, because it seems this one gets used to describe other people who are behind in some way. In this case, it tells me that the writer thinks faith lies on a spectrum between "doesn't believe the church's claims" and "is certain of the church's claims." At least, she writes as if faith that matters is on a spectrum like that.
I like my new agnostic faith better than my old faith. I think for me it's an improvement. But I wouldn't talk about "where my wife is" in either her faith or her doubt.
Any suggestions for replacement phrases?
Haha, true... I will say that communities like that also gave me real, good advice that sounds a LOT like what the lds.org article says! And they gave me that advice a long time ago! It's not ALL rage over there, though there is quite a bit (some of which I think is justified). It's got a place.

Reddit was bad for my marriage. It got me whipped up about things. I would be fine then reddit would send me into a tailspin.
