I wouldn't have a problem with this if they were up-front about what they were doing and didn't publicly assume the roles of judge, prosecutor, defender and state. In truth, they're only counsel for the defense in one small trial, and we're the judges, regardless of the fact that they tell us that it's immoral to make what they think are the wrong judgments.
