This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

The young men's presidency in the ward where he resides told Hermey's son that Hermey was the devil incarnate. There, we have proof that the devil walks to and fro on the earth wreaking havoc as stated in modern and misleading scripture.
That's hilarious! Wait, that's sad! Another grown man tells a kid his dad is the devil. Sounds about right for Mormonism.

If it is true, then I secretly worship Stan.
Having personally met Hermey - Can confirm.
Devilishly good look, dressed nice, smooth talking and very convincing. Pretty much the exact LDS definition of Satan.
Reading can severely damage your ignorance.

Red Ryder wrote: Wed Mar 22, 2017 10:55 amIronically this is what started my path to apostasy. Over 10 years ago, the church mailed me a DVD to celebrate Joseph Smith. I probably would have never even watched it but my young daughter wanted to "watch the free movie from the mail box!!!"

So we turned it on and it was the typical mormon heartell JS worship fest retelling the first vision story. Well, the church had skipped that part where JS was attempting to pray and Stan tried to stop him. I've seen the film strip version 100 times so this omission in the new DVD caught my attention. It stuck with me for a few days and I wondered by the church would omit it?

So I googled "omitted first vision" and opened Pandora's box. Turns out the church's has a history of whitewashing it's history!!
Maybe the church leaders were worried that if people knew Joseph Smith was so tempted by Satan then, that he might have been again, later - sexually and financially in particular, as history seems to prove.

Another thing that I think is not necessarily white-washed but is glanced over is the response Joseph received when asking which church to join. "I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong...all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: 'they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof."

To me, that is a description of not only "other" church leaders, but especially lds church leaders. They may give good preaching during general conference, but they steal from members and the poor and they preach corrupt teachings that create depression and anxiety in many. I really think that the real God would answer to NOT join any church - especially not churches that demand you worship them over God, as the lds one does.

I took another look at the list and my stuff really doesn't fit under hasty generalization, even though that's were people would put it. Mine would fall under appeals to authority. I don't know what to say, when the doctrines, policies and culture make it so accepted best practices in critical situations is considered against God's p!an, I just don't know what to tell a person when even just plain common sense is considered a tool of the adversary.

Maybe Satan's preferred tactics are more along the lines of:

-False prophets
-Fictional scripture
-Intense indoctrination of small children
-Requisite wearing of secret underwear with cultic symbols
-Oppressing people with unnecessary guilt
-Proclaimed possession of powerful keys that are not backed up by literal manifestations
-Big, flashy pageants, high-production movies and other forms of HeartSell
-Usurping the history and identity of entire ethnic groups
-Massive sales force bombardment
-Selling sacred tokens for money
-Secret oaths and covenants of allegiance to an earthly institution
-Holding family members hostage
-Public disdain for persecuted minorities
